Our story

Tenuta di Pantano Borghese is one of the oldest estates in the Agro Romano and was acquired by the Borghese family in 1613. In the 19th century, they carried out land reclamation by diverting the waters of the lake into the adjacent Osa ditch. This work made agricultural activity possible, which still continues today after more than 400 years. The estate covers 300 hectares between Via Casilina to the south and Via Prenestina to the north, in the countryside of the municipality of Monte Compatri.

Today, the farm is managed by Federico Cavazza, Agronomist and grandson of Donna Livia Borghese Cavazza, it produces high-quality fresh milk and traditional cereals typical of the Roman area, respecting traditional methods and maintaining a strong connection with nature. Our guests have the rare opportunity to observe the stages of fieldwork and livestock farming, experiencing an authentic journey that celebrates ancient agricultural traditions. For over 15 years, the estate has also been an exclusive venue for weddings and private events.

The outdoor spaces open onto landscapes of great historical and natural value, with views of the Roman ruins of the Acquedotto Alessandrino, built in 226 AD by Alexander Severus. Designed to supply water to the Neronian baths in Campo Marzio, between the Pantheon and Palazzo Madama, the aqueduct stretches for about 22 kilometers, drawing water from springs near Pantano Borghese. Characterized by a concrete core covered with brickwork and

a series of continuous arches, its capacity was approximately 243 liters per second. Over the centuries, starting from the 3rd–4th century AD, the structure underwent significant restorations, preserving a vital piece of Roman history. Tenuta Pantano Borghese is a place where nature, history, and tradition intertwine, offering a unique setting to experience authentic and unforgettable moments in the heart of the Agro Romano, just a short distance from Rome.
